 As a memento to her son, Mrs. Ljiljana Popovic initiated a fund for two awards for students and young researchers in the field of computer science. Both awards are named after Aleksandar (Sasa) Popovic and promote qualities and achievements that Aleksandar has shown during his life.

 "Aleksandar-Sasa Popovic" award //**to graduated computer scientist(s) for exceptional achievements during study and for exceptional graduation thesis**// is awarded by the University of Novi Sad. The award has been established on December 6, 1999 and shall be accredited to students of informatics that finished their study in time (as defined by the curriculum) and with average grade point of at least 9.50 (10 is the maximum).

+This award will be for the three best science papers written by students of all levels of study of computer science at the Faculty of Sciences. Papers from students will be on a special workshop, towards the end of the year, and the best ones will be rewarded. Part of the award is to also help finance the participation in conferences and the publishing of these papers in open access journals.

+Zahvaljujući inicijativi [[https://www.dbe.uns.ac.rs/redovni-profesori/ruzica-igic/|prof. Ružici Igić]]  i uz svesrdno razumevanje i nesebičnu podršku  [[http://apv.visokoobrazovanje.vojvodina.gov.rs/%D0%B7%D0%B0%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8/|prof. dr Zorana Miloševića]] Pokrajinskog Sekretara za visoko obrazovanje i naučnoistraživačku delatnost, pokrenuta je inicijativa i započeto finansiranje i treće nagrade posvećene tragično nastradalom Aleksandru Saši Popoviću. Intencija je da se nagrada dodeljuje svake godine kako bi se kontinuirano održavalo sećanje na Aleksandra Sašu Popovića.
+Nagrada će se dodeljivati za 3 najbolja naučno-stručna rada studenata svih nivoa studija informatike na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu. Svi studenti koji žele da konkurišu za ovu nagradu, radove će raditi pod mentorstvom profesora informatike sa Prirodno-matematičkog fakulteta a prezentovati ih na adekvatnom skupu/radionici koji će se održavati krajem svake kalendarske godine. Tri najbolja rada će biti nagrađena a osim ovih novčanih nagrada postoji mogućnost finansiranja učešća studenata nagrađenih radova na međunarodnim konferencijama ili finansijska podrška za štampanje radova u open access časopisima.
