As a memento to her son, Mrs. Ljiljana Popovic initiated a fund for two awards for students and young researchers in the field of computer science. Both awards are named after Aleksandar (Sasa) Popovic and promote qualities and achievements that Aleksandar has shown during his life.
“Aleksandar-Sasa Popovic” award to graduated computer scientist(s) for exceptional achievements during study and for exceptional graduation thesis is awarded by the University of Novi Sad. The award has been established on December 6, 1999 and shall be accredited to students of informatics that finished their study in time (as defined by the curriculum) and with average grade point of at least 9.50 (10 is the maximum).
“Aleksandar-Sasa Popovic” award for exceptional research work in computer science is awarded by the Faculty of Science. The award has been established on May 25, 2000 and shall be accredited to researchers in the field of computer science that are not older than 28 years of age.
